How your Texas legislators voted on campus control bills

In 2023, the Texas Legislature passed two higher‑education bills—SB 17 and SB 18—that opened the door for political appointees to exert more control over what can be taught on public university campuses. These laws helped create the environment where Texas A&M’s regents and administrators can pressure professors to remove content that touches on race, gender, or sexual orientation.

The charts below show how each Texas legislator voted on SB 17 and SB 18.

  • “Yea” votes supported these suppressive campus control bills.

  • “Nay” votes opposed them.
